Glass Fibre Re-inforced Co-Polymer resin
is the technical name for the advanced flexible and crack resistant heavy duty exterior render that we use in the vast majority of our wall rendering and insulation systems as the base and repair coats . Our resin coloured top coats are then trowel or rollered onto these base renders.
COMPOSITION OF GRC RENDER
GRC Render is based on a blend of Portland cement, spray dried copolymer resin, water retaining polymer and chopped strand alkali resisting glass fibre,
The polymer addition is alkali reactive forming a water repellent to reduce water permeability.
GRC Render is designed to give extremely high flexural and tensile strength, together with excellent bonding to sound substrates, resistance to water penetration and durability of the highest order. High impact resistance without crack propagation gives a surface which may be subjected to heavy industrial wear without undue deterioration
GRC Render may be used as a render in its own right, or in conjunction with Wetherby Heavy/Light Duty paint or other decorative finishes, forming a highly durable system for use in domestic, agricultural or public works outlets. It may also form part of a concrete carbonation resistant repair or treatment system.
The systems are suitable for use in sterile areas where constant cleaning is carried out and may be used where maximum resistance to fungus or lichen growth is required.
SITE WORK
Preparation: the use of external bonding agents is unnecessary when using H.P Render. However it is important to remove friable surface material and preferably to rake mortar joints where appropriate to provide a degree of mechanical key. Old render may be prepared by hacking off hollow or damaged areas, raking out and filling gaps.
Make good hacked off areas using the render as a filler.
GRC Render may be used as a high performance concrete repair, hacking off concrete over deteriorated repair, priming the prepared exposed steel with a high quality coal tar epoxy, waiting, and filling with the render, up to a thickness of 10mm.
MIXING
GRC Render should be mixed in a tilting drum or pan mixer using clear water added at a rate of approximately 8 litres per 25 kg bag. Gauge to a fatty, easily spreadable paste without slump. Mix only sufficient for use in 1 hour and always “knock up” a full bag before gauging a part bag to avoid the complication of fibre segregation on storage When using a part bag always re-pack the remainder, close the bag and store dry.
H.P Render is formulated for use on all unsealed masonry, however, if suction is very high , pre-wet the substrate to kill most of the suction. DO NOT USE P.V.A. or other bonding agents. Apply the render using a steel trowel to an average thickness of 6 mm for a single coat application.
H. P Render may be over coated after 12 hours and to ensure a monolithic bond always overcoat within 24 hours. Never allow hot sun to dry the surface quickly. When weather is hot and sunlight is falling directly on the newly applied render, keep the surface damp with a fine spray.
Where a maximum decorative effect is required, finish with a plastic or stainless steel trowel.
HEALTH & SAFETY
GRC Render is in the normal course of events very low in toxicity. However, fibres can be irritants, therefore, wear a gauze mask if mixing in confined spaces and wear overalls and gloves when mixing.
As with all industrial processes good hygiene is important. In case of eye contamination irrigate with copious quantities of water.

7. PERSONAL PROTECTION
- Always wear gloves and overall protection. When handling liquid products wear protection. With solvent-based products ensure efficient ventilation so that OEL is not exceeded any time. In confined areas wear respiratory protection. Ensure high standard of personal hygiene. Do not smoke, drink or consume food in working areas. Work clothing should be changed regularly and kept clean.
8. FIRST AID
- In case of skin contamination – wash with soap and water, do not use solvents.
- In case of eye contamination – irrigate with running water for at least 10 minutes, if irritation persists seek medical advice.
- In case of accidental ingestion – solvent based products, seek medical advice, and water based products: which are alkaline (see label) drink water and then seek medical advice immediately.
- Inhalation of solvent based products – remove to fresh air. If unconscious give artificial respiration, seek medical advice immediately.
9. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
- Avoid breathing vapour with solvent-based products. Extinguish flames, turn off electricity supply.
- All liquid products – absorb on earth or sawdust. Dispose of in accordance with local regulations. Most Wetherby products may be land filled. Powder products may be swept up and landfill.
