Condensation on walls – the cause
Condensation on internal walls is particularly relevant in autumn and winter when the solid walls in our homes get very cold in relation to the internal temperature and contrary to most peoples belief we have very high humidity levels. The high moisture content in the air cannot pass through the walls as vapour but instead due to the cold wall the vapour condenses to liquid as the dew point is reached.
Once the moisture vapour condenses onto the cold wall surface it attracts microscopic mould spores in the air which use the damp moist surface as a breeding ground and this is displayed most commonly as black spot mould :

Condensation Mould – the Cure
The only way to permanently destroy the existing condensation damp, and the ugly health endangering black spot mould, is to ensure the surface temperature of the external walls remains above the dewpoint at which condensation occurs. this cannot be done by running a dehumidifier as this just relieves the situation on a temporary basis.
Wall Insulation Stops Condensation – Permanently
The best and most efficient way of ensuring walls are kept to a temperature too high for condensation is to clad them with a good quality layer of insulation. This can be done externally – external wall insulation - or internally if cost is a major concern or you wish to preserve the existing external appearance.
Internal insulation has always been based on dry lining the walls which meant lots of upheaval to woodwork and flooring as well as reducing the size of rooms which may not be huge to start with, especially bedrooms with fitted furniture. This has put off a lot of home-owners who try to live with the damp and manage it through de-humidifiers.
However, the ingenious Germans have now come up with an amazing new alternative:
Thermal Anti-Condensation Lining Paper
Invented and rigorously examined by the German testing authorities this easy to hang insulating lining paper has been especially designed to stop condensation by greatly increasing the surface temperature of the internal walls and also reducing heat loss at the same time !
At only 3.5mm thick and simple to hang, this ready to paint condensation beating lining paper, means there is no need to re-position the skirting boards, coving, sockets and light switches etc or have the room size decreased by messy dry lining. It really is so straight forward, economical and easy to use that anyone can and should be able to take advantage of this breakthrough technology.
