External Rendering, Penetrating Damp & Wall Coatings Specialists

” IT AIN’T NECESSARILY SO  ” !

When it comes to supposed damp patches on internal walls the first thought tends to be  ” I’ve got damp in the walls ” and need to get a specialist company to come in and sort it out.

Whilst this may be true in some cases the cause of the wet patches could just as likely be down to a fault elsewhere on the outside fabric of the house. So your first port of call should be a quick visual inspection of the exterior and in particular the following areas need close inspection:

1.  Is the guttering firmly fixed and not blocked so water does not spill over the sides and soak through the wall ?

2.  Are my drain pipes connected properly and do they feed into any guttering at the right angle ?

3.  Have I got any roof tiles or ridge tiles missing ?

4.  Is the ground surrounding the walls at a height lower than the Damp Proof Course ?

5. Are the seals around the windows and doors intact with no gaps ?

6. Does the damp appear after heavy wind driven rain that drives into the roof and walls ?

7. Is the house ventilated enough to let moisture escape ?

8. Are any wet clothes dried over radiators and is the bathroom door kept closed when bathing or showering ?

EUREKA  ! I ‘VE FOUND IT !

You may well be rewarded by taking a little time to check the above and to find a simple, inexpensive and quick cure to the damp in the walls rather than forking out on unnecessary and expensive damp treatments.
