Question:

Pebble Dash

Pebble Dash

A basic sand and cement is applied to the wall and pebbles are pushed into this for decoration.

The Pebbles lose their adhesion very quickly and leave little pockets behind, ideal for allowing water to collect and eventually penetrate the sand and cement.

When this has happened the moisture then freezes causing loss of adhesion to the wall and eventually causing large sections to fall away.  Small repairs around windows or even larger areas on whole walls are very noticeable with this method of covering.

Once penetration has occurred water vapour in the home cannot easily escape through the walls and will be ideal conditions for black spot mould.

Spar dash is similar to pebbledash but with spar thrown into the sand and cement.  Spars are thin sharp fragments of stone which easily adhere to the base coat, however, because they are smooth this means they slip out very easily as well.  They will begin falling out from the day of application.

Other common problems:
Painted Brick :: Blown Brickwork :: Spray Coatings :: Tyrolean :: Cement Render

Wethertex™ has a range of systems that will eliminate these problems.
